Approach to Therapy
Hi, my full name is Loretta Laurin, but you can call me Lo.I specialize in relationships, trauma, and personal growth. I support clients with relationship challenges (including queer and open relationships), interpersonal and family conflict, trauma-related symptoms (including physical, sexual, racial, childhood, and intergenerational trauma), grief & loss, chronic pain, self-esteem & self-criticism, anxiety, burnout, addictions/substance-use issues, explorations of identity (including gender and culture), psychedelic integration, and major life & career transitions. My approach is rooted in somatics (body-based), social justice, and attachment theory. With over 15 years of experience teaching mindful movement, I bring a deep understanding of the mind-body connection into my work. As a queer, multiracial person living with chronic pain, I’m committed to providing culturally sensitive, context-aware care that honors the complexity of your lived experience. I also draw on attachment theory to explore how early relationship patterns may be affecting you today, and to support healing through new, more secure experiences of connection, safety, and love.Above all, my goal is to create a compassionate space where you feel supported and empowered to take the next steps on your healing journey—so you can truly thrive in your life and relationships.
A Bit About Me Outside of Therapy
I was born and raised in the Vancouver, BC area on the traditional lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. My mother is a Chinese immigrant, and my late father was Quebecois (French-Canadian). I love dancing, outdoor adventures, and facilitating meaningful experiences for people.

Individual Therapy
I believe strongly in your innate capacity to heal and grow, and will work with you to reconnect you to this inner wisdom. While the space I hold is collaborative and non-judgemental, I also provide guidance and perspective when needed to support your growth.I tailor my approach to fit your unique needs, drawing from a wide range of modalities. I’m trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), a powerful approach for exploring and balancing inner parts—such as the inner critic, perfectionist, or caretaker—that may be in conflict. I also incorporate Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Somatic Experiencing (SE), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP), Solution-Focused Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, Satir, Gestalt, Person-Centered Therapy, and my certification as a Life Coach.

Couples / Relationship Therapy
In relationship therapy, we explore the root causes of harmful patterns while building more effective communication and fostering deeper connection and intimacy. With personal experience in diverse relationship structures—queer, straight, monogamous, polyamorous/open, kink, religious, and atheist—I understand that each relationship is unique. I take time to learn your specific challenges, goals, and aspirations, helping you articulate your needs, listen to your partner(s), and address problematic behaviors with compassion and accountability. Together, we’ll develop and practice practical skills that nurture healthy, lasting relationships.I work primarily with Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and integrate knowledge from Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and the Gottman Method.
